I work in and cover the entertainment industry and because of it, I get screeners. But that film The American Society of Magical Negroes felt like a kick in the gut. I have zero interest in it other than screening it for work. The logline empitomizes everything you've written about the "magical negro": A young man gets recruited into a secret society of magical Black people who dedicate their lives to making white people's lives easier. And the lead is willing to betray other "magical negroes" because he loves a non-Black woman. The entire thing is appalling, and to think that anyone Black would star in this despicable film with that kind of subject matter is deeply disturbing. Then in the defense of it, it's billed as a satire of the "magical negro" trope. I call BS. It's directed and produced by a Black man by the name of Kobi Libii an actor/comedian. With all of the truly humorous subject matter at his disposal, he chose this dreck.

Regrettably, there's a prevalence of a specific portrayal of Black individuals in our society, whether in daily life, media, or work environments. They are often depicted as conforming to traits deemed non-threatening and docile, aiming solely to ensure the comfort of White people. This portrayal frequently comes at the cost of their own identity, emotions, and well-being. It's disheartening to witness the persistence of this "magical negro" stereotype in 2023. Personally, having autonomy over my identity is invaluable. I refuse to mold my opinions, personality, or demeanor solely to cater to White people's comfort, especially by suppressing my true self to avoid unsettling or intimidating White people. True living transcends mere existence, and worrying about White people being upset and disturbed in my presence if I don't behave in a certain way is not my idea of living.
