I'm Black, and I want to say clearly that this perspective isn't tone-deaf or antisemitic. It's essential to acknowledge the historical suffering that Black people have endured, including enslavement, murder, rape, lynching, and colonization. We recognize and empathize with the pain in other marginalized communities. It's possible to condemn the heinous actions of terrorist groups like Hamas, feel compassion for the innocent Palestinian people who wanted no part of this and are being used as human shields by Hamas, and the murders of the Israeli and American victims of this attack, while also criticizing the Israeli leadership.

It's concerning that Israel gave a 24-hour evacuation notice to a million people who have nowhere to go. This decision has garnered criticism from both inside and outside the Jewish community, as demonstrated by the recent protest in New York and those who've been speaking out in Israel. Furthermore, the UN and Human Rights Watch is documenting potential war crimes committed by the Israeli military. Human Rights Watch on Thursday, accused Israel of using white phosphorus munitions in its military operations in Gaza and Lebanon, saying the use of such weapons puts civilians at risk of serious and long-term injury.

War is never a good solution and causes immense suffering, especially for innocent civilians. It's important to address these issues honestly and work towards a peaceful resolution, instead of burying one's head in the sand. And it's disingenuous to bring George Floyd into this when that was another murder by a rogue cop, which is commonplace within the Black diaspora. But in the case of this Isreal-Hamas war, yes, all of the innocent lives matter both in Israel and in Gaza. It's an epic tragedy that will only get worse before it gets any better.
