I've had the same issues and I nipped those idiotic questions in the bud quickly. And then as a Black woman, it's even more insidious. But I didn't allow anyone to deter me from what I wanted and was capable of buying. I have no idea why people feel the need to assume anything, and then start telling you what you need to buy with with your own money and what you don't.
