Real friendships still exist. The difference between disposable friendships and "ride or die" friendships lies in being real and honest with each other. I've had friends since I was a little girl, and we’ve always had each other’s backs. When one of us is out of line, whether acting like a diva, saying something inappropriate or venting uncontrollably like a crazed mad person...we aren’t afraid to tell each other to calm down, slow your roll and refocus. It might sting at first, but that kind of communication, directness, and honesty is what keeps our bonds strong and intact.

Sadly, many people today are too immature to handle this level of honesty. Like Jack Nicholson said in A Few Good Men, "You can't handle the truth." That's part of why modern friendships often lack staying power.

People want friends who look perfect for social media and real life. They avoid honest feedback and don’t want to invest the time it takes to build lasting friendships. For some, everything, including friendships, consciously or unconsciously, is temporary and disposable. It's a sad reflection of our current social skills, as our "insta/disposable society" has stunted the development of essential character traits like responsibility, respect, and caring.
